Matt Newman, Principal and CEO
Matthew is originally from Trumbull, Connecticut and attended Boston University. As a senior in college, he began a publishing company that put out real estate, apartment rental, and roommate magazines. These opportunities introduced him to hundreds of contacts in the real estate community as well as ancillary fields such as banking, inspections, and real estate law. In the mid 1990s, Matthew started a real estate company that today has three Unlimited Sotheby’s International Realty offices in Brookline, Jamaica Plain, and Newton Center. He is a silent partner but participates in corporate development and consultation.
Matthew began buying, managing, and developing real estate in the early to mid 1990s. At first he bought single units, three family houses, and small projects. Now over 25 years later, he owns over 500 residential units, commercial properties and development, has completed dozens of condominium conversions, acquisition-conversion-management situations, and renovated and sold numerous assets, and properties, has developed dozens of projects and has brought and sold over 180 million dollars worth of property in the area. Recently closed on a 50 unit building in Montreal, finished 4-5 local projects in Brookline, South Boston, and East Boston. Currently working on a 5 unit historic condo conversion in East Boston, a 20 unit ground up construction in Eastie, three 3 family complete renovations in Southie, a project in Brighton, and multiple single unit renovations, as well as seeking new acquisitions.
Sara Wolanski, Chief Operating Officer
Sara’s interest in real estate began in 2008, when she moved to Boston and became an office assistant at Newman Properties. She then spent 4 years in the healthcare field, but returned to Newman Properties and the real estate world in 2014. Sara helped to integrate the use of AppFolio property management software at Newman Properties. She is in charge of all operations both in management and development. In her spare time, she enjoys trying new recipes and volunteering at a local dog rescue.
Andy Heley, Partner, Property Manager
Andy has been working in the Boston area real estate market since 2005 after spending a few years at a big public accounting firm. He started out as a real estate agent focusing primarily on rentals and quickly moved into sales and property management. Andy ran a successful real estate office in Allston for several years before leaving to focus more on the property management and investing side of the business. He joined the team at Newman Properties in 2013 and is the Property Manager for properties on Cape Cod, the South Shore, Boston’s Mission Hill and Allston/Brighton neighborhoods. Andy is also a partner on some of the South Shore and Cape Cod properties and he continues to buy, sell, and invest in real estate individually.
Mariana Salerno, Senior Property Manager
Prior to joining Newman Properties in 2011, Mariana was in retail and financial services. Since 2011, she has grown into a Senior Property Manager at Newman Properties. Mariana manages our properties in East Boston and Chelsea. She evaluates new properties as well as oversees renovations and rehabs. Mariana is a Massachusetts Notary Public. She was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and has been a resident of Boston for over 25 years. She is multilingual in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. She’s family oriented and loves taking her Puggles, Maya and Nixon for walks. She is outgoing, extremely organized, and motivated.
Alex Ritchie, Development, Project Manager
Prior to joining Newman Properties Alex spent eight years gaining broad experience throughout the real estate industry. After graduating from New York University School of Law in 2009, he has worked in the fields of real estate law, development, policy, management, and sales. Outside of work Alex enjoys the outdoors, loves to fish and has just taken up windsurfing. Alex joined Newman Properties in 2017 and uses his real estate expertise and legal background to play a crucial role in all major development projects.
John Langone, Development, Project Manager
John began working in real estate in 2008 as a rental agent in Brighton, within 3 years he was managing his rental office and purchasing/rehabbing multi-family properties around Boston in his spare time. He has been overseeing real estate development for Newman Properties for over 2 years and recently re-joined the team after spending a year in New Jersey.
Alex Bardin, Development, Acquisition Consultant
Alex grew up in Newton, MA where he still volunteers his time working with NAA Basketball and the Newton South Basketball Program. He’s the proud father of two young children and he’s been in Real Estate working in all facets since 2007. Alex specializes in value add opportunities both on the commercial and residential side. He’s done many ground up developments and rehabs in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Amanda Allison, Office Administrator
Prior to joining Newman Properties, Amanda worked in animal care full-time, managing a kennel that housed up to one hundred dogs per day. When she wasn’t at the kennel, she spent her time managing her family’s income properties. In addition to income properties, Amanda’s family also owns a general contracting business, so she grew up in construction zones, watching her family buy, sell, rent and flip houses, condos and apartments. As much as Amanda loves animals, she decided she wanted to go all-in on real estate and development, so she joined our team at Newman Properties!
Karen Anderson, Staff Accountant
Karen is a former Financial Controller who’s career has spanned 20 years in a business management role. Karen entered the business world after college, starting first with Marriott Hotels and then branching out to multiple different industries, bringing a vast amount of experience to her new role at Newman Properties. Karen has three children, whom she is extremely proud of. She loves traveling and cooking in her free time.
Bill Huxley, South Shore Leasing and Rental Coordinator
Bill is a South Shore native who has worked in retail management for over twenty years. In addition to being a proud husband and father of two, Bill also takes pride in managing his own multi-family properties in and around the Taunton area. With Bill’s experience in management and real estate, he is a great addition to the Newman Properties team!
Melina Mavroidis, Marketing Assistant
Melina is a current undergraduate student at Suffolk University, double majoring in marketing & international business. She is a part of the real state club at her school and has always been interested in the industry because of her family’s influence. Watching her grandfather, a property manager in the Boston area, has inspired her to explore the field further. She incorporates her education in marketing into the company and continues to gain career related experience through Newman properties
Cesar Salinas, On-site Manager
Cesar provides exemplary maintenance and cleaning services for our buildings in East Boston, MA. Cesar joined Newman Properties in 2015 and has been an outstanding addition to the team.
Tanner Payne, Partner of P&N Investments
Tanner is a lifelong resident of MA where he grew up on the south shore. Entering the real estate industry after graduating from Providence College in 2006, Tanner founded his own brokerage in 2009, which he still operates. In 2014 Tanner and Matt Newman decided to partner up on a multi-family deal in Fort Hill Roxbury and P & N Investments was founded. To date Tanner has been responsible for sourcing deals and leading P & N Investments to over $15,000,000 in real estate transactions.
Heidi Freimanis-Cordts, Business Consultant
Heidi joined the Newman Properties team in March 2014. Her duties at Newman Properties include advertising, public relations, and marketing. Mrs. Freimanis graduated from the Boston University School of Music, where she received her Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance and her Master of Music degree in Historical Performance-Voice. As a member of the Copley Singers, Mrs. Freimanis had the great honor of singing for the President of the United States at the Interfaith Service for Victims of the Boston Marathon Bombings.
Zachary Newman, Marketing Intern
Oldest son of Principal of the company, Zachary is an avid scuba diver, loves deep sea fishing, plays lacrosse and snowboards. His duties at Newman Properties include coordinating the events calendar and attending events that include Open Houses, Real Estate Investment Club Meetings, Fundraisers, and Seminars. He has attended open houses throughout the area, fundraisers for the Mayor as well as City Councilors of Boston, fundraisers for State Senators and Representatives, and seminars including Ins and Outs of Wholesaling, Networking, and State of the Market. He will attend the University of Miami in fall 2017.
Phyllis Holcomb, Accounting Consultant
Phyllis has been working at Newman Properties for over 20 years. She holds her Masters of Science in Accounting from Bentley University. She was born and raised in the Boston area.
David Brose, Investment Consultant
David Brose has been in the industry for 10+ years and is an expert in evaluation and analysis of investment real estate. He was instrumental in Newman Properties acquisitions throughout the Boston area but especially important in our decision to start buying in East Boston and identifying valuable properties.
